Welcome to Speech!
What is speech therapy?
Speech therapy is an intervention service through Special Education that focuses on improving speech and language skills. These services must be provided by a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist or Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant.
What is a Speech-Language Pathologist?
A speech-language pathologist (SLP) is an expert in diagnosing and treating communication disorders. This includes articulation, language, voice, fluency, and even swallowing!
In Texas, an SLP must obtain a masters degree in Speech Pathology/ Communication Sciences & Disorders, a Texas license through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, and be a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) with a Certificate of Clinical Competence by passing a rigorous, standardized evaluation.
If you have concerns about your child's speech or language skills please contact his/her teacher, principal, or myself.
