Hello, and welcome to Dunaway Elementary! I have been teaching 1st grade here since 2005. It is a great place to work and learn. Teaching first grade is the best job and is my passion. Watching and teaching my students as they grow and learn is the highlight of each year!
Now, a little about myself. I grew up in Waxahachie and have lived here most of my life. Family and church are important to me. I am a mother of three and our two dogs! We love being together, attending family events, and playing with, and walking the dogs.
My contact information:
Conference time: 12:50-1:35
SeeSaw- an app my class uses each year
Families are encouraged to download the app to their phones and computers so they can see what their child is doing in class! I also use it to send messages and reminders. Student's work is preserved in this digital portfolio. It's a great tool!
The first grade teachers have written/and received 2 different grants from The Waxahachie Education Foundation! Our garden has been in operation since the spring of 2008. All first graders participate in the planting, weeding, watering, harvesting, and sampling the vegetables from our garden. We also have a Master Gardener, who works with us on a regular basis throughout the year. At the end of each year, our first graders are certified Junior Master Gardeners!
There are opportunities to help out in our garden during the school year and during the summer. We have scheduled Garden Days on Fridays during the school year and during the summer, students and their families can come out on most Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings.
We are currently (2019) campaigning to raise funds to build a pavilion over the center part of the garden. This will provide an outdoor classroom for all students and teachers to use throughout the year. Exciting things are happening in our garden! Won't you join us?
